Dear Colleague(s),

I want to draw your attention to some recent changes in the way urgent referrals are made to our Unit.

We want to improve our service to the acute medical departments of our regional hospitals.

We have recently undertaken a process of audit and evaluation of the urgent service that we provide.

We found that the main sources of frustration in the process of referring a patient to our service were:

  1. Limited availability of the on-call SpR via the bleep-and-refer system,

  2. poor communication and,

  3. poor documentation of any advice or management plan.

We have now adopted a new referral system to ease the frustrating process that you and your teams have previously encountered.

We are now using a secure cloud-based platform that is accessed via the internet; referapatient

Further details are available on this website and referapatient.

A Clinical Governance video presentation about referapatient®:

Clinical Leads and their colleagues can setup a free account to access all referrals sent from their departments (please speak to our technical support team on the webchat helpdesk).

Do please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or if you wish to discuss any other matter. We are always happy to receive feedback about the service we offer and hope to continue making improvements to the care of our mutual patients.
